McEwan, Tackett Pace First Two Squads of Mixed Doubles Qualifying

The duo combines to average 229.5 in leading all doubles teams through the first half of qualifying

Houston—Five-time PWBA Tour champion Danielle McEwan and 13-time PBA Tour champion EJ Tackett lead all players from A and B squads after the opening day of qualifying of the PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles tournament at Copperfield Bowl. Tackett and McEwan scored 3,213 (+413) over seven games to take the early lead with C and D squads set to compete tomorrow.

Tackett, then teaming with Liz Johnson, won the event in 2018, and is competing alongside McEwan for the first time.

The top three teams of the day came from A Squad. Trailing Tackett and McEwan are Richie Teece & Liz Kuhlkin (+372) and Jakob Butturff & Stefanie Johnson (+283). The B Squad leaders, Wes Malott and Verity Crawley, sit fourth overall with 3,042 (+242) in total pinfall.

Competition resumes tomorrow with C and D squads bowling their seven games of qualifying beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Among the many players in action tomorrow are Shannon O’Keefe and Bill O’Neill, who have won the event twice since it became an official PBA/PWBA title event and once more before that.

At the conclusion of D squad, the top quarter of the field will advance to the semifinals on Sunday. All rounds will be streamed live on FloBowling. To subscribe, visit FloBowling.com.
