Chris Via, Springfield, Ohio has been selected as the April 2021 Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association
Via joined a select group to win a major title as his first PBA title by defeating Jakob Butturff, Tempe, Arizona, 214 to 213 for the 2021 U.S. Open championship.
The television stepladder finals began with fifth seeded Cristian Azcona, Clermont, Florida, downing fourth seeded Jason Sterner, Rochester New York, 258 to 256. Third seeded Anthony Neuer, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, ousted Azcona, 236 to 200. In the semifinal, the second seeded Butturff bested Neuer 257 to 203.
Neuer attracted a great amount of attention from the sports world and social media by becoming the first bowler in thirty years and fourth overall to convert the 7 – 10 split on a PBA telecast.
Also receiving votes this month were Thomas Larsen, winner of the USBC Masters, Walter Ray Williams, Jr., winner of the PBA50 Lightning Strikes Open presented by Hammer, a record 15 th PBA50 title, Pete Weber, winner of the Florida Blue Medicare PBA50 National Championship, Francois Lavoie, winner of the Guaranteed Rate PBA Super Slam, Jason Couch, winner of the PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open presented by Lucas & Magazine and Brunswick, and Dasha Kovalova, winner of the PWBA Greater Twin Cities Open.
